Enhanced Horizons
EQUIPPING AT RISK YOUTH THROUGH
TRAINING & MENTORSHIP
Enhanced Horizons, a program of Hill Country Youth Ranch is where former foster youth, ages 18-25, can acquire a variety of transition resources, services and support.
Our employment, education, housing, mental health and life skills programs empower former foster youth to be successful productive adults.
The typical young person aging out of foster care in Texas will have been in the system for more than 5-and-a half years and will have moved more than 8 times to different foster homes, group
facilities, shelters or residential treatment centers. These youth lack the traditional family and social supports to successfully transition to adulthood.
Enhanced Horizons provides the supports necessary to promote a successful transition to adulthood. Community volunteers and financial supporters provide time and capital for all Enhanced Horizons programming.
The Cailloux Center for Adult Learning is a program affiliated with the Big Springs Charter Schools (Brune/Cailloux/Najim) which offers students the opportunity to complete
their high school education and receive a diploma from our on-site TEA-accredited school. In addition, Enhanced Horizons strives to provide community mentors and lessons in financial
management, career development, positive habits, and healthy relationships.

Mentorship Opportunities
When a foster youth ages out of care at age 18, they often lack the experience and knowledge to live on their own and are at high risk for dropping out of school, homelessness, unemployment,
early parenthood, and crime.
Volunteers willing to commit approximately 10 hours each month, serving as a mentor, could drastically change all this.
An EH Mentor is a caring, responsible, adult volunteer who serves as a trusted friend and guide to a young adult, who has recently aged out of the foster care system. The primary role of a mentor is to determine what skills and resources are needed for the youth they are matched with to successfully transition to independent living. The Mentor helps to ensure that the young adult develops important life skills and sets goals to achieve those skills. Mentors also expose the youth to new opportunities and a wide array of resources to help them make positive choices such as completing their high school education, pursuing post-secondary education and/or employment.
To become a Mentor, you must attend training, submit a completed volunteer application, participate in a personal interview and pass a criminal background screening.
