Childcare Training Program

Each child's need, each child's gift

Knowing that children need a continuity of relationship following trauma like abuse or abandonment, the Youth Ranch has designed an array of programs from psychiatric care to college grants, so that children do not have to leave their  family of caregivers on their way to stability, graduation and adulthood.

This continuum of care is individualized.  As a child lives among us, we watch for the things he or she does well, and for those interests that stay with him, working on issues of learning and healing each day, and seeking the conditions and involvements that spark motivation.

Healing, like learning, goes at an individual pace, and takes time.  Children whose early development has been severely damaged have wounds only time and God can heal.  What we can do is to encourage a child to live in the anticipation of healing, all the while learning the tools and values that can endure until the time is ripe for their use.

Thus, HCYR is an "open-ended learning system".  Programs are evolved based on our current population of children.  Over time, some programs have repeatedly proven their worth and become regulars on our agenda.
