History of HCYR Charter Schools

Does the Charter School

Program work?

HCYR Charter Schools have excelled in reviews by the Texas Education Agency and are currently ranked in the top 5% of all charter schools in the state.  100% of HCYR Charter Students consistently pass the TAKS exit exams, a performance unparalleled in the public school system.  Students who graduate from the Charter School system are succeeding in gaining admission to programs of higher education in percentages much higher than those in traditional public education.

HCYR Charter Schools

Advantages for students in HCYR Charter Schools

Accelerated academic advancement based on individualized plans

Small school size, small class size, extraordinary staff-student ratio

Positive philosophy supporting individual gift development

Excellent state-of-the-art facilities on two campuses

Qualified and caring teachers at all levels, grades 1 through 12

Healing and learning for traumatized children valued equally in classroom

Quality Education . . . Caring Heart

The HCYR Charter System offers a quality choice in educational opportunity.  The system is spread over three state-of-the-art campuses -- the Ed Brune High School and the Ed Brune Middle School at the Big Springs Ranch near Leakey, and the Cailloux Elementary School at the HCYR campus in Ingram  -- which together cover grades 1 - 12.

The educational philosophy of the Charter Schools follows guidelines established by TEA, outlined in the Texas Behavioral Support Initiative (TBSI).  This approach stresses the importance of relationship, encouragement and positive reinforcement for students. Professional counselors and other specialists are available throughout the day to offer support and assistance in academic, emotional, social and behavioral areas.

The HCYR Charter Schools consistently surpass the strict academic performance standards of the Texas Education Agency.  Students typically advance 1.5 years academically for each year of enrollment in one of the Charter Schools, making this an excellent choice for children whose academic deficits must be overcome for their timely graduation from high school, or whose emotional needs require a time of healing before re-entering a mainstream classroom in the local public system.

. . . the public school system may be intent on universal education,
but every flower does not bloom at the same time.
